John Tracey joined UChicago as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Climate Systems Engineering initiative (CSEi) in 2025. His research uses field work, lab experiments, and computational tools to evaluate the effects of ocean alkalinity enhancement on marine life. In addition to his academic work, John has served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Policy Fellow in the US Department of Energy, contributes to the Day One Project at the Federation of American Scientists, and has worked as an innovation consultant at Alcimed Inc. Before joining UChicago, John received his PhD in Geosciences from Princeton University where he studied ocean biogeochemistry. He also holds a BS in Biology with theology as a second major from Fordham University.
