Geneviève Elsworth brings over a decade of experience in applied climate and carbon research spanning federal, academic, and industry settings to her role as Director of Research Development at the Climate Systems Engineering initiative (CSEi). Geneviève arrives from DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office, where she served as an Innovation Fellow overseeing transformative energy and carbon removal technologies. Earlier, as a Research Associate at NASA’s Global Modeling and Assimilation Office, she developed ocean carbon forecasts and pioneered marine carbon dioxide removal data products. In her previous position at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, Geneviève led technical evaluation of advanced low-carbon technologies and biofuels.

Geneviève holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she investigated climate change impacts on marine ecosystems. She also holds a M.S. from McGill University and an B.S. from Penn State University.

As Director of Research Development, Geneviève provides technical and intellectual leadership across CSEi’s diverse research portfolio, spanning open-systems carbon removal, sunlight reflection methods, and local interventions to prevent glacial melting. She works closely with Faculty Director David Keith and Executive Director Macol Cerda to oversee funded research projects, manage engineering contracts, support grant development, and foster connections among researchers across campus.
