Yu Wang is a postdoctoral scholar in the Climate Systems Engineering initiative (CSEi) at the University of Chicago, where his research focuses on glacial climate intervention — investigating whether targeted geoengineering approaches could slow the catastrophic loss of polar ice sheets and ice shelves and, in turn, reduce their contribution to future sea-level rise. His broader interests span ice-sheet and ice-shelf dynamics and modelling, subglacial hydrology, and ice–ocean interactions.
Before joining UChicago, Yu completed his Ph.D. at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania. He contributes to international community efforts such as the ISMIP6 model intercomparison and co-convenes the WilkesMIP intercomparison project. Beyond his research, Yu is developing new ways to communicate Antarctic science to wider audiences — most recently through 3D ICE, an interactive explorer that visualises the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets in three dimensions (3d-ice.com).
